Before everything else, the change.org petition:
Petition for a faithful adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series
If
you look at my Deviantart gallery, you can see I have rediscovered my
love for Isaac Asimov's works, especially for his Foundation Series.
As
a Foundation fan, I googled information about a possible Foundation
Series adaptation. And indeed, there is one. Between 2021 and 2025 Apple
TV + created what they call a Foundation series adaptation.
Only,
this is no adaptation, because: the main characters from the
"adaptation" don't even exist in the books; half of the other
"adaptation" characters don't exist in the books either; the action from
the "adaptation" is completely different from the books' multiple
plots; the characters from the "adaptation" which do actually have book
equivalents are completely different from their book counterparts; the
book themes have been dumbed down below sea level.
Basically, the
only elements from the books which have been preserved in the Apple TV +
"adaptation" are a few characters and location names.
That's it!
That's all that the "adaptation" did for Isaac Asimov's Foundation
series and for the book fans. And when I watch other book adaptations
(Harry Potter, Dune, Divergent, Roadside Picnic, The Hunger Games,
classic literature adaptations and so on), I honestly want to cry out.
Why can't the Foundation Series fans have the same degree of
professionalism?
This is why I have created a petition to the
movie industry in general (not just Hollywood), to create a faithful
adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series.
I know chances
are extremely scarce that the petition is successful. But still, the
simple fact that this petition is signed and shared by as many people as
possible, and is seen by someone in the film industry is a small
victory!
Thank you very much for signing and / or sharing! We will not see a decent adaptation next year, that's for sure, as Apple TV +'s "adaptation" has already been renewed for season 4. But in 10 years, who knows?
